He was a dynamic man and practical manager. Simpson did not want to run the HBC from behind a desk instead he criss-crossed Rupert's Land from Hudson's Bay to the Pacific Coast to see how his company was performing. George Simpson had a Métis wife and children but he decided to leave them to marry his 18 year old English cousin,Frances. He had a biased and elitist attitude toward Métis people and the Simpsons isolated themselves from Métis people. .
