Laozi is the founder of Taoism, and is believed to be a deity for China. He was believed to live in the time period of the 6th or 5th century BCE. However, he died in 531 BCE. He was said to have lived during Confucius' time period. One of his notable ideas is the wu wei.

It is a very important concept in Taoism that literally means non-action or non-doing. Laozi is a part of the Zhou dynasty. The literal meaning of his name is "Old Master".
