Medusa was the only mortal daughter of Phorkys and Keto. She had two sisters, Euryale and Sthenno, who were Gorgons like her. The Gorgons all had snake hair, wings, and tusks. In some stories, only Medusa had the power to turn living things into stone, but in others, all of the sisters would turn anyone or anything that looked at them into stone. Medusa and her sisters were born in and/or lived in Okeanos. She was killed by the hero Perseus.
