On August 19th, 1942, 6100 Allied troops including 5000 Canadians, landed on the beaches of Dieppe.
This was supposed to be a surprise attack but an encounter with a German convoy alerted the Germans. With this, the Germans were prepared for the raid and this became a disaster for the Allies. 913 soldiers lost their lives with 1950 soldiers taken prisoner. Very significant because it shows Canada’s involvement in the war by sending 5000 of their troops. Important because many Canadians lost their lives and got captured.
